KESTREL BAGS

Kestrel was a brand specializing in everyday bags and travel bags. The brand featured hand drawn prints in unique colorways. It was sold in retailers such as Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and more.

The Process

Kestrel was a private-label accessories brand specializing in everyday bags and travel bags — sold at Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and more. The line was defined by hand-drawn prints in distinctive, season-specific colorways.

I worked on Kestrel as a designer at Conair / Allegro, taking on increasing creative responsibility across the life of the brand. In the first year I collaborated directly with designer Sienna Gilliam — together we hand-drew and repeated prints, combining original artwork with purchased vintage illustrations that we redrew, recolored, and transformed into something new. I selected and purchased the leather for each season and designed bag shapes using raw textiles.

In the years that followed I took full creative ownership — designing all prints, patterns, and repeats, developing seasonal colorways, designing bag structures and trims, and specifying hardware, zippers, and leather. I collaborated with a pattern maker to refine bag shapes each season.

On the production side I worked with the Director of Marketing on seasonal shoot direction — scouting locations, art directing on set, and building the seasonal lookbook.

The brand was featured on the cover of WWD.

I redrew purchased vintage floral artwork, and layered it over our Kestrel stripe pattern (drawn and repeated by Sienna Gilliam) to create a new pattern. I then repeated the complex pattern.

I purchased the floral from a print studio, recolored it and overlayed it on a stripe pattern I designed.
